After the Procedure
Following your surgery, you will go to the recovery room where you will be closely observed by registered nurses until you are able to sit up and take fluids.
You will then be transferred to your room or a second phase recovery area where you may relax in a recliner (lounge chair) until discharge. Light refreshments will be available for you at this time. Family or companions will wait for you in the surgical waiting room while you are in surgery. They can join you in the Phase II Recovery, at which time nurses will review your discharge instructions with you and your escort before you go home. To respect the privacy and space of others during recovery, there is a limit of one visitor at a time.
Returning Home after Outpatient Surgery
After you have been discharged from Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, you should plan to spend time relaxing and resting in the comfort of your home. There are certain steps to follow to promote a smooth and speedy recovery.
For the first 24 hours following your surgery, do not drive, use any power tools or drink any alcoholic beverages. Resume your normal diet as tolerated unless otherwise instructed. If you are experiencing excessive pain, bleeding, estimated to have a temperature greater than 101 degrees Fahrenheit orally, developing a large bruise or if it is continually growing larger, please call your physician immediately.
The responsible adult who will escort you home must be available when you are ready to be discharged. You must have a responsible adult stay overnight with you at your home on the day of the surgery.
For any concerns, questions or in case of an emergency, call your doctor or return to the Emergency department.
The day after your surgery, a Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital registered nurse will contact you to evaluate your progress. At that time you may feel free to ask any questions you may have.
