Pregnancy should be an exciting and hopeful time of anticipation. However, for families who experience the loss of a baby during pregnancy, delivery, or shortly after, this time can be bewildering and devastating.
Many people who have not suffered this type of loss will not truly understand your sadness. At Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, we understand this, and we encourage all women and their families to seek out support and other resources at the hospital if they feel this can be of assistance to them.
Monthly Support Group Meetings
Our monthly support group meets the third Thursday of every month at the hospital in the HUGS room. The meetings run from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Everyone who has experienced a loss is welcome.
Our spring planting is held the beginning of June. This is an informal get together of parents who have had losses. Families meet in the hospital’s memory garden, which many of our parents use as a place for reflection, and plant flowers in memory of their babies. The hospital provides some flowers, but families are welcome to bring their own to plant. Water and cookies are provided. Children are welcome. The memory garden is located on the south side of the hospital adjacent to the Karmanos parking lot.
Walk to Remember
This event is held in the beginning of October at the hospital. The walk includes a trip to the memory garden where parents have the chance to reflect and place mementos on the garden’s Mother Tree. There is a simultaneous balloon release and our parents each get a rose. Cider and doughnuts provided. Children welcome.
This event is held the second week in December in the hospital’s conference center. The group makes ornaments in memory of our sons and daughters. This is a large event where our parents have coffee and conversation with the families and friends they have met through the years in our support group. Cookies, coffee and tea served.
