Early Detection is The Best Prevention
The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute at DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital was developed to provide comprehensive state-of-the-art cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment in Oakland County. Instead of traveling long distances to see cancer experts, patients now have the opportunity to be treated by specialists close to home, and with the resources of one of the country's top cancer institutes.
With the combined expertise of the Karmanos Cancer Institute and Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, patients now have comprehensive and compassionate cancer care available at the Natalie and Manny Charach Cancer Treatment Center in a single, convenient location close to home.
Programs, treatments and services include:
Comprehensive Breast Services - DMC-Huron Valley Sinai Hospital provides caring and effective preventative and diagnostic cancer services, accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which is administered by the American College of Surgeons. We offer mammography, ultrasound, sterotactic breast biopsy, bone density, MRI and nuclear medicine procedures. All mammography films are reviewed by two radiologists, thus it is giving everyone a second opinion automatically. We offer early morning, evening and some Saturday appointments.
Infusion Center - The Infusion Center at the Charach Cancer Treatment Center provides patients the opportunity to be treated for a wide variety of medical conditions on an outpatient basis. Among the medical specialties that refer patients to the Infusion Center are: Hematology, Medical Oncology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, General Internal Medicine, Neurology and Rheumatology.
Radiation Therapy - Our advanced treatments include Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), which allows radiation amounts to be adjusted during treatment to spare close-by normal tissue and permits increased doses of radiation to the tumor. Multi-Leaf Collimator (MLC) allows metal "fingers", controlled by a computer, to filter beams of radiation in a precise pattern for the most effective results.
Support Services - We understand the unique needs of cancer patients and offer a full range of programs to assist them. Individual and family counseling resources and support groups for family and friends are provided by a trained Oncology Social Worker.
Patient Education and Resources - Comprehensive resources including brochures, resource books, videos as well as patient and caregiver classes.
