Brasza Outpatient Center - Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan
Renovation And Expansion Project
The Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan has embarked upon a major, $34.5 million, 4-year renovation and expansion project which began in late 2001. With over 80% of the financing in place, this project, critical to RIM's mission to continue delivering exceptional rehabilitation care to the community will be the first such project for the hospital in over 50-years. The construction project (awarded by the Detroit Medical Center to Devon Industrial Group/Walbridge Aldinger) is scheduled to conclude by 2005 and will include:
- Completely remodeled, fully renovated inpatient units with private and semi-private suites, showers and modern amenities
- Wall gases and storage facilities in each room
- Completely refurbished first, third, fourth, sixth and seventh floors
- Updated therapy treatment areas
- Accommodations for a spinal cord injury, oncology unit; stroke and geriatric unit; a brain injury unit and an orthopedic unit
- An 'Activities of Daily Living ' apartment on each unit
- State of the art technological environment
- A sports medicine/fitness facility
- Therapy and physician outpatient treatment space
- A walking/running/wheelchair track
- New energy-efficient windows (completed 1/2002)
- A completely redesigned, expanded entrance to the hospital
- A therapy garden for patient meditation and relaxation
- Opportunity for additional specialty programs
In addition to the complete renovation of all inpatient units, the project will include a new 26,000 square foot fitness and wellness center named after Henry Brasza, his wife Marie Brasza and daughter, Marie Brasza Pinch, major contributors to the project. The Brasza Outpatient Center will be adjacent to the present RIM building and will house a universal therapy/gymnasium area, a computer lab, a resource room, aerobic studios, family lounge, conference rooms and a 4-lane, 100 meter track. Through the extensive renovations, RIM will broaden the existing patient base by providing care and services to patients who currently seek medical attention and rehabilitation services from facilities that provide more modern accommodations and are more aesthetically attractive.
