Meet our Cardiology Team James Marsh, MD
In addition to heading the department of cardiology, Dr. Marsh is the director of cardiology research. He is directing clinical trials of prevention and therapy for atrial fibrillation (a type of abnormal heart rhythm) and stroke. In addition, Dr. Marsh studies the basic molecular biology of heart failure and hypertension. Under his leadership, the division of cardiology at Harper University Hospital has become a nationally known center for excellence, recognized by Blue Cross-Blue Shield as a Center of Excellence in Heart Disease. Dr. Marsh is quick to point to the outstanding accomplishments of his colleagues, including the division's impressive rate of control for hypertension and the research into a new technique for controlling irregular heartbeats. Dr. Marsh, who spent 25 years at Harvard before being recruited to Harper, says there were several factors that drew him to the Detroit Medical Center. "We practice medicine the way it should be practiced," he says. "Anyone who comes to Harper University Hospital is going to get the very best care possible regardless of his or her circumstances and ability to pay." Dr. Marsh took his undergraduate and medical degrees at Harvard. He stayed on to complete fellowships in internal medicine and cardiology.
