Leading the way
The department is already making a national impact in several areas including:
"Our affiliation with Wayne State University School of Medicine, one of the nation's leading teaching and research institutions, enables us to recruit the very best doctors," says Lisak. "Nine or ten of our physicians and two of our scientists are well known not only nationally but also around the world." Physicians are involved with and aware of breakthroughs in treatments. For patients, that translates into outstanding care from doctors who are involved with some of the most aggressive research nationally and internationally. "We see well over a thousand Multiple Sclerosis patients every year," adds Lisak. "More than 2,500 patient visits annually not including visits for research studies." Patients also benefit from the department's team approach. Specialists from various neurologic and related disciplines including neurosurgery, psychiatry, neuroimmunology, neuroophthalmology and neurooncology, rehabilitation medicine and others combine efforts to offer Neurology Department patients the best care available. "Our Stroke Program, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromuscular Disease/Neurogenetics and Epilepsy programs are models for the nation," says Lisak. "Harper University Hospital physicians represent a combination of academic and clinical excellence. We are on the cutting edge of diagnosing and managing diseases."
