The Krieger Geriatric Center

Health Center

  • Specialty Care

  • Until recently, some health problems were considered an inevitable part of aging. Today, physicians and scientists have a better understanding of the aging process. They have also discovered how some problems can be prevented or alleviated through early diagnosis and treatment.
    • Falls and Instability
Mobility and balance may diminish with age. The KGC health care professionals can assess mobility problems and provide appropriate referrals for physical therapy or to a geriatric rehabilitation specialist.
    • Medication Reactions (Polypharmacy)
Adults often take multiple medications to treat several chronic conditions. These medications, individually or together, can cause mental and/or physical problems. The KGC staff can assess medications and their impact on an individual. They can also recommend changes to improve quality of life.
    • Memory Loss
Memory loss is a frequent complaint of older adults. Through proper evaluation, the causes of memory loss can be determined and often treated. Memory loss can be caused by an untreated illness, depression, vitamin deficiency, certain medications and/or dementia.
    • Psychological Assessment
Adults may become depressed or withdrawn due to surgery, illness or a lack of social support. A first step toward improving quality of life is an analysis of the patient’s overall status and living situation to ensure a safe, health environment.
    • Urinary Incontinence
Leakage of urine is not a normal part of aging. Illness, chronic health problems, medication and physical changes can contribute to incontinence in men and women. Once the cause is know, treatment and/or referral to a urologist or gynecologist will be tailored to the patient’s specific needs.
  • Primary Care
If you are 60 or over, the Krieger Geriatric Center can help you maintain good health with up-to-date medical information, preventive care, early diagnosis and when necessary, medical treatment. Older adults have unique health needs and out geriatric specialist can help you feel your best so you can enjoy your life.
