Welcome to HVSH and welcome to Evidence-based Nursing Practice
[EBNP]. EBNP at HVSH is an active team of interested Nurses that:
•Share questions about clinical practice •Identify staff members with
similar interests •Search and critically review the evidence •Integrate
evidence into practice •Evaluate the results and •Announce the
findings
Monthly EBNP Minutes and invitations to participate are shared with all RN’s
and other clinicians by e-mails affording networking and inclusion of staff
unable to attend meetings. Nursing interest in
evidenced based projects has increased by more than 500 percent in 2007.
Offerings such as a “Cookie Research Study,” participation in Wayne State
University’s Research Day and one hour workshops on “Use of Intranet Library”
sponsored by EBNP in 2007 provided fun and informative methods to introduce
research to staff. Currently the team is working on projects that involve
animal therapy visits, labor management and newborn care issues, automatic cuff
blood pressures versus manual blood pressures, pain management concerns and
exploring the risks-benefits of family presence during invasive procedures.
With the emphasis on evidenced based practice in healthcare Nurses at HVSH
are more aware of the importance of searching for evidence on which to base
their clinical decisions. With the resources provided by DMC library
services and the Advanced-Practice nurses on site nursing staff are learning to
make patient care decisions using available research findings combined with
their own clinical expertise and the patient preferences. Come join the EBNP
team at HVSH. Meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 2PM. If
meeting time does not fit your schedule, share your interest through email
replies to EBNP Minutes. Everyone’s participation is of value! Come be a part of
professional nursing practice that is taking the lead to integrate EBP into
nursing care.
"Evidence Based Practice makes a difference every
day. In PAT, we are looking at nasal staph carriers and the effects on
post-op infection rates for patients who are getting an implanted device.
A very simple screen and treatment can greatly help to avoid those post-op
infections. This is a very exciting development!" ~Jackie D., BSN,
MSN
"Evidence Based Practice (EBP) has made me more aware
of ongoing improvements and evaluations to what is most prudent in care
delivery. I have benefited professionally from my attendance/ participation in
EBP committee." ~Pamela W., BSN, RN
